Updates coming to Target Enrollment Date option in July

On July 1, 2025, my529’s Target Enrollment Date investment option will see portfolio changes as part of its regularly scheduled asset allocation update.

Your clients may have questions. my529 will notify account owners of the change in the April newsletter and will follow up with a reminder email in June.

Read on for more information about the Target Enrollment Date updates and timeline.

Updates by design

my529’s Target Enrollment Date investment option includes 12 portfolios on a single glide path, with asset allocations that range from aggressive to conservative. The allocations adjust quarterly in a planned shift over time toward more conservative holdings as the beneficiary’s planned enrollment draws closer.

Every two years, this investment option will offer a new aggressive allocation and, at the other end of the glide path, the portfolio with the most recent date (e.g., 2022/2023) will be folded into the Enrolled portfolio. This sort of movement from the most recent date investment option to the Enrolled portfolio does not constitute an investment option change.

Here’s what to expect

June 30

my529 will perform system updates related to this change beginning at 2 p.m. MT. You may have limited access to the advisor portal for a short time.

July 1

The changes detailed below are automatic. No action is required by account owners or advisors.

  • As is customary on the first business day of the quarter, my529 will make asset allocation adjustments to the Target Enrollment Date portfolios as applicable.
  • The 2022/2023 portfolio will transition automatically into Enrolled, as displayed in the chart below. Account owners will see the transition in their online accounts and quarterly statements. The transition does not count as an option change.
  • my529 will offer a new 2044/2045 portfolio. This portfolio will be at the beginning of the glide path and will have an aggressive, equity-based construction.
Be advised

The transition to Enrolled from 2022/2023 does not count as an investment option change. Should you or your client wish to adjust their portfolio before June 30 or after the shift to Enrolled, it will be considered an option change.
