Access to and use of this website may be prohibited in certain jurisdictions. If you access this website, you do so at your own risk, and you are responsible for complying with the applicable laws of your jurisdiction.

my529

my529 is a 529 college savings plan sponsored by the State of Utah. Although money contributed to my529 may be invested in portfolios that invest in underlying mutual funds, my529 is not itself a mutual fund. The State of Utah has created a trust specifically for the purpose of offering 529 college savings plans, including my529.

Performance

The value of your my529 account may vary depending on market conditions and the performance of the investment option you select. It could be more or less than the amount you contribute. Your investment could lose value. Past performance is no guarantee of future returns. You assume all investment risks, including potential for loss of principal as well as responsibility for any federal and/or state tax consequences. Accounts are opened based on representations by you and with your express agreement to the Terms and Conditions of the my529 Account Agreement. Information on this website does not supersede the information in the Program Description and the actual written contracts and agreements that establish my529 accounts.

Investments

Except for the FDIC-Insured investment option, and the FDIC-insured underlying investments, investments in my529 are not insured or guaranteed by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC). The FDIC-Insured investment option, and the FDIC-insured accounts, are held in trust by my529 at Sallie Mae Bank and U.S. Bank (collectively Banks). Contributions to and earnings on the FDIC-insured accounts are allocated between the Banks according to the following percentages: Sallie Mae Bank (90 percent) and U.S. Bank (10 percent).

Subject to the rules and regulations of the Banks and the FDIC to each account owner, money in the FDIC-insured accounts will retain its value, whether in the FDIC-Insured investment option or when allocated to another investment option that has FDIC-insured accounts included as an underlying investment. Money in the FDIC-insured accounts is insured by the FDIC on a pass-through basis to each account owner up to the maximum amount set by federal law, which is $250,000 at each Bank. The amount of FDIC insurance provided to an account owner is based on the total of (1) the value of an account owner’s investment in the FDIC-insured accounts at each Bank, plus (2) the value of other accounts owned by the account owner (if any) and held at each Bank, as determined by the Banks and by FDIC regulations.

Non-Utah taxpayers and residents

The state in which you or your beneficiary pays taxes or lives may offer a 529 plan that provides state tax or other benefits, such as financial aid, scholarship funds, and protection from creditors, not otherwise available to you by investing in my529. You should consider such benefits, if any, before investing in my529.
