Tax Refund Contribution

One more step

You elected on your Utah state income tax form to contribute some or all of your refund to a my529 educational savings account. The Utah State Tax Commission has sent us the refund amount you elected to contribute, but you received a notification from us because you have not yet opened a my529 account.

If you wish to open a my529 account, follow the steps below to fill out a digital account agreement.

How to begin saving with my529

Gather necessary documentation

Have the following on hand before you open an account:

  • Account Owner: Social Security Number/Taxpayer Identification Number.
  • Beneficiary: Social Security Number/Taxpayer Identification Number, birthdate, and physical address.
  • Successor Account Owner (optional). Social Security Number/Taxpayer Identification Number and birthdate.
  • Contributions (optional). Account and routing numbers for your bank or credit union.

Choose an investment strategy

my529 has a variety of investment options—Target Enrollment Date, Static and Customized. Underlying funds include offerings from Vanguard, Dimensional, PIMCO and FDIC-insured accounts.
