Saving at every step
Just as you begin to plan ahead far in advance when saving for your own retirement, you want to plan now to help with your student’s future opportunities.
A study1 showed that children with between $1 and $499 in a higher education savings account are three times more likely to enroll in college and four times more likely to graduate than students without accounts.
Even if your student ends up not attending a traditional college or university, the money invested in your my529 account can be used at trade and technical colleges, or even toward an apprenticeship. There are a variety of ways to use your investment.
Never too early to start
Investing small sums regularly over time can help make higher education more affordable.
This scenario is for a my529 account with a beginning balance of zero dollars and the amount stated contributed on the first day of each month over 18 years, with a 5% rate of return compounded annually.
