Changes coming to one my529 Customized portfolio

Funds to change

As of March 19, 2025, my529 will discontinue the my529 International Value (UTVJX) single-fund portfolio below, which corresponds to the Vanguard underlying investment listed next to it.

Assets will be mapped automatically on a 1:1 dollar basis to the my529 International Value Factor portfolio that features a Dimensional Fund Advisors (DFA) fund after market close on March 18 (2 p.m. MT). The number of units resulting from the change will adjust due to price differences between the two portfolios involved, but the dollar amount invested will remain the same.

Following the transition, underlying fund expenses will drop.

Will the mapping count as an investment option change?

No. However, if you would like to alter your allocations prior to or after the fund transition on March 18, it will be considered an investment option change.
The Internal Revenue Code allows you to change your investment option twice during a calendar year. Should you wish to adjust your Customized allocations, you may do so in your online account.

What do I need to do?

Nothing. This change will occur automatically and does not require any action on your part.

Why is the change happening?

my529 monitors underlying funds on an ongoing basis. After extensive analysis, my529 determined to transition the fund based on several factors, including:

  • The my529 International Value Factor (UTDIX), corresponding to the DFA fund, has demonstrated better investment performance over short- and long-term time periods.
  • UTDIX has an underlying fund expense of 0.28%, which is 22% lower than the my529 International Value (UTVJX) expense of 0.36%.
  • UTVJX is the least used underlying fund of all 30 my529 Customized investment offerings.

What if I already hold the UTDIX portfolio as one of my investments?

If you already hold the my529 International Value Factor (UTDIX) portfolio, the allocation transferred from the my529 International Value (UTVJX) portfolio will be added to your existing allocation.

How will the change affect my templates?

Any template including the former UTVJX portfolio will remain active. Clients invested in this portfolio will have their holdings mapped automatically to the UTDIX portfolio. Additionally, the mapping will be included in the updated version of the template, and the template name will not change. You will still be able to view it within the portal.

If you have questions about the templates, please reach out to the Relationship Management Team at 888.529.1886 or advisorinfo@my529.org.
