Termination of the my529 Access Discover® Prepaid Card

A notice for account owners who use the my529 Access Card

We want you to be aware that the my529 Access Discover® Prepaid Card product will be discontinued on October 15, 2026, and will no longer be supported by Central Bank of Kansas City (CBKC) or my529.

We would like to inform you of key dates to help ensure a smooth transition and access to any remaining funds from the my529 Access Card account.

Here’s what you need to know.

Timeline

  • September 30, 2026: my529 will cease processing withdrawal transactions to the my529 Access Discover Prepaid Card account after this date. Withdrawal requests must be received by my529 by 2 p.m. MT on this day. No additional funds can be loaded to your card after this date.
  • October 15, 2026: This is the last day account owners can use funds on their my529 Access Discover Prepaid Card. Transactions must be made before 11:59 p.m. MT.
  • October 16, 2026: Your my529 Access Discover Prepaid Card account will be closed effective 12:01 a.m. MT. Secondary/student cards and accounts will also be closed.
  • November 16, 2026: If you have a balance remaining on your my529 Access Card after the account is closed, a check for the remaining balance greater than $1, in accordance with your Cardholder Agreement, will be mailed to you. Checks are expected to be mailed on or before November 16, 2026. Log in to your my529 Access Card account at my529accesscard.com to ensure your mailing address is accurate. If you have any questions regarding the status of your check, call customer service at 1-844-545-0805.
  • February 13, 2027: This is the last day to submit disputes related to your my529 Access Card account by calling customer service at 1-844-545-0805. Disputes submitted after this date will not be processed. The my529 Access Card customer portal will remain available through at least this date.

Can I transfer funds from a my529 Access Card account to a my529 account?

  • No, funds cannot be transferred to your my529 account after they have been withdrawn from the Access Card account. 
  • If you receive a check for your remaining card balance, you can deposit the funds into your bank account and then make a new contribution to your my529 account. A new contribution is not considered a reinvestment of unused funds.

What can I do with the funds currently on the my529 Access Card?

  • Use the funds for qualified education expenses through 11:59 p.m. MT on October 15, 2026.
  • Close your my529 Access Card account now and request a refund check by calling
    1-844-545-0805.
  • Wait for a check to be mailed for any remaining balance. Checks are expected to be mailed on or before November 16, 2026. Then you can deposit the funds in your own bank account to use for qualified education expenses, or make a new contribution to your my529 account.
  • Remember that the same qualified education expense rules apply to funds on your my529 Access Card. See the my529 Program Description for more information.

What if I have questions about the my529 Access Card account?

my529 can answer questions about your my529 account but is unable to answer questions related to your my529 Access Card account.
